Wood Work

I wanted to give myself a terminology lesson today and I think it is worth reviewing what different wood paneling options are available.  Some people have dated wood paneling, some people have boring new construciton, and some of us just want to use the right words when we're talking to others about wall treatments!  Below you will find a great round up of wall paneling.

The three images below are examples of ship lap.  This is modern day ship lap for sure, lots of character, but none of the rawness of what hangs in an old cabin in the woods.  I love how well this paneling works with neutrals, as in the first and third pictures, but also bright color as in the second picture.
The image below is of classic beadboard.  Most beadboard comes in 4 and 8 ft increments and is fairly easy to install and gives you a great look for minimal effort.  It's very durable and is great in high traffic areas as it works to protect your walls.  It also allows for a color change, one color for the wall, one for the wood work.
Next we have the most modern wainscoting, and it's so great.  I've seen this paneling used on every wall in a room from floor to ceiling, but I've also seen in used on just one wall and up to plate rail height.  There is a lot of flexibility with this paneling, and isn't it just so graphic and cool?
I'm currently trying to decide what type of paneling to use in my kids play room.  I'm a fan of the diy pallet look in playful spaces, now I just have to win my husband over to the idea!
I love the above image for it's color and texture, but I also love how they were able to use the recycled planks with some ship lap on the ceiling - so lovely!
