Since my oldest is 7, and her 4 year old sister is exceptionally tall, I am looking for larger pieces; I want to get them something that will last a few years. Along those lines I turned to PB Teen. They have a cute double lounger that could work well, if they don't mind sharing.
My daughters, 7 and 4, love to listen to books on CD. They head off into our sunroom, shut the door on their little brother, and listen for hours. Currently they lay on a fairly thin rug with their feet up on the wall. It doesn't seem to bother them, but I've been thinking of ways to add to their fun. I have a round-up of kid-sized lounge furniture for y'all today, in case you're like me and already thinking of Christmas presents :) Since my oldest is 7, and her 4 year old sister is exceptionally tall, I am looking for larger pieces; I want to get them something that will last a few years. Along those lines I turned to PB Teen. They have a cute double lounger that could work well, if they don't mind sharing. That's kind of a big if. Sharing and lounging don't always go hand in hand. There is the standard issue pb anywhere chair, oversized for the slightly older child. A safe choice, and worth consideration as you can get them second hand so inexpensive. The Company Store Kids offers this double seater that folds out into a make shift bed. The color ways are less than awesome, but it does look comfy. Fatboy has a piece of my heart because this girl is ADORABLE and their color options are the most fun. The also look like the easiest to clean and could work in a pillow fight. My kids like to flop! Garnet Hill Kids has a different shape, multiple patterns and color ways and good reviews. There are also a lot of options on etsy, and of course the DIY route of making your own bean bag. I'll let you know which direction we head! Any thoughts on your own kids presents? Or are you sane and not even thinking about Christmas yet? -Andrea 3 Comments Megan's post on Monday about complimentary colors has been on my mind a lot. I've been thinking about how we attribute different styles to the sexes. Megan and I are friends for lots of reasons, and speaking to our design sensibilities we have a LOT in common. We both gravitate to a clean aesthetic, and typically, like she said, we both lean slightly masculine in design preferences. I wanted to highlight a few amazing chairs, and talk about how they read; are they masculine, feminine, or a nice balance? In this picture I'm looking specifically at the amazing black, white, and pink stripped dreamy club chair on the right. I LOVE this chair. I love it because it is clean lined, bright and bold and reminds me that whimsy is a great element in a room. This chair is quite possibly the most masculine thing in this very girly room, while it's shape is 100% male, the hot pink stripe is not. That's why I say this chair is a great balance between the two sexes. This chair is 100% female. I know some of my husbands friends who would refuse to sit in this chair as it might lead to talking about feelings and the tweezing of eyebrows. Thin curvy legs and arms+ bold floral pattern=super feminine. I would say these chairs are a good balance between the male and female. The color could go either way, the simplicity and lack of upholstery is masculine, the line and scale is more feminine. What's your take? I picked this chair as the counterpoint to the feminine orange and white chair above. It is the same color combination; however, this chair is decidedly masculine. From the choice of materials to the squatness of the shape and the simplicity of the design this is a man's chair; or a woman like me who just loves the fresh presentation! When designing a room I generally like to keep a good balance between feminine and masculine. Even if you choose one of these decidedly male/female chairs you can always counter the chair with another element in a room. I like everyone to feel comfortable in a space, whether they wear a skirt or a tie. -Andrea I think everybody knows that you HAVE to try out a piece of furniture in order to know if it will be comfortable for you. Back when I had a normal 9 to 5 job the sit test was a big part of my day. I would often be seen in my tiny little car with a few chair legs poking out of the back seat. We always wanted our clients to try out a chair before they placed an order so I would bring them a chair from a dealer, often with a fabric sample, and have them perform the all important sit test. When my husband graduated with his third degree I wanted to celebrate big time! I thought, I should really get him the gold standard of all office chairs, the Aeron! So I talked to my boss and finagled a deal on one of these beauties: I had Spencer come into the office and try it out, he loved it! Funny thing was, his new employer knew how great these chairs were too, and they staff all of their offices with them. So I didn't place an order, and he ended up buying himself a big TV instead, the kind that all designers hate! But my husband is now a very willing tester as he always sits in things when we go furniture shopping; which is kind of often as I have a thing for furniture. He always sits in the chair below and dreams of a day when we can put one in our own home: According to Spencer the Eames Lounge and Ottoman set is the MOST comfortable place to sit in a modern furniture store while your wife slowly pursues the rest of the shop. One of these days we will take this beauty home with us and he can sit in comfort and style while he watches his too big TV. |
